Instant Pot Honey Sweetened Applesauce

Do you have an Instant Pot? You can make this honey sweetened applesauce in 5 minutes! It’s delicious and free of refined sugar!

So I think I have the coolest step dad in the world… seriously he’s awesome. He loves to cook and we often discuss recipes and kitchen gadgets. He loves a Pampered Chef party and has perfected sourdough bread and I’ve been the lucky recipient of most of his trials!

One afternoon we were talking and I asked him if he’d heard of an Instant Pot. He hadn’t. I told him we needed one that it was like a pressure cooker and a crock pot had a baby, and then I told him of all the wondrous recipes I’d seen on Pinterest.

He handed me his credit card, “Buy one.”

“Seriously?!!?”

“I just handed you my credit card, we need one of these things, buy it!” He was serious, all I had to do was promise to let him use it and cook for him!

So I ordered it and it arrived two days later, and boy was I a happy girl!

How did I live without this thing? I honestly wondered if it would live up to the hype, especially since I don’t cook meat, I wondered how much I’d actually use it. So far I’ve only made things like rice, hard boiled eggs, baked potatoes and soup… nothing to fancy or invite my parents for dinner worthy, but it is a total meal time game changer.

Then I found an applesauce recipe and was super excited! I love homemade applesauce but not so much the effort it takes to make it, enter in my new friend the Instant Pot.

This is insanely easy to make and is super delicious. Even better its honey sweetened applesauce so no refined sugar!

Here’s what you’ll need-

8-10 Apples- I used a mix of Granny Smith & Gala

1- tsp Cinnamon

1/2- Cup Water

1/4 – Cup Honey

When I say this is easy I mean it! Not only is the ingredient list short but prep is a breeze!

Peel your apples and then chop them into fourths and cut out the core.

Pile them all in your Instant Pot and then pour in the honey, water and cinnamon.

Give it a stir… I’m not convinced this step is totally necessary but it makes me feel better to know everything is nicely spread out.

Now press the manual button on your Instant Pot, set the time to 5 minutes, put the lid on and let it do it’s thing!

Let me tell you, I was seriously skeptical that quartered apples would make applesauce without some serious help… Oh ye of little faith… the Instant Pot does not disappoint.

After the 5 minutes is up you’ll want to let it naturally release, just let it hang out until the little red indicator has fallen back down, it takes about 10-15 minutes on mine.

Now take off the lid and be amazed!

I apologize for the terrible picture… it’s a little tough to get a good one inside the pot… especially when it’s steaming hot. But you get the idea, it is applesauce… magic, Instant Pot honey sweetened applesauce.

If you like your applesauce super smooth you can take an immersion blender to it and make it really smooth, if you like the slight chunkiness of homemade applesauce just leave it like it is!

We love this when it’s still warm right after cooking, but it stores beautifully in an airtight container or jar in the fridge! It is a delicious treat to have on hand and so super easy! Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for this wonderful recipe. Made it exactly as written, with the addition of a pinch of nutmeg. When I removed the lid I was disappointed that it was more like stewed apples, I put 2 more minuets on the timer. Perfect! I used 10 honey crisp apples. Maybe they take longer. I’ ll make it again & again with 7 minuets on the timer.

  2. I do think the time depends on what type of apple and how firm they are. You can also use an immersion blender to mash up any chunks! Glad it turned out for you!

  3. Great apple sauce recipe!
I’m now gonna try to make it before my GF gets home (I’m in the dog house for forgetting our anniversary!!!) This is her favorite so hopefully it will do the trick.
    Keep up the great work!
