FAQ & Tips for Making Alfredo Sauce With Greek Yogurt

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! You can make this Greek yogurt pasta sauce ahead of time to have on hand for meal prepping, topping your favorite pasta or pouring over veggies. Just make it and allow it to cool completely then store it refrigerated in an airtight container. It will thicken as it cools so when you reheat it you may need to add a splash of milk or broth to thin it out a little.

What to serve with creamy Greek yogurt alfredo-

We love this recipe as a topping for so many things. It is a classic on pasta noodles like spaghetti or fettuccini, but it also makes a great mac and cheese if you put it on elbow noodles. We love it on veggies like broccoli or asparagus, and it also amazing on grilled chicken or even fish! We like to top it with a little fresh grated parmesan and a sprinkle of fresh herbs. It is great on any classic alfredo dish like ground turkey alfredo or chicken alfredo.

How to store Greek yogurt alfredo-

Store Greek yogurt alfredo refrigerated in an airtight container. It will keep for 2-3 days.

Can I make this healthy alfredo sauce recipe vegetarian?

Absolutely! This Greek yogurt sauce is made with chicken broth but you can easily swap it for vegetable broth to make this healthier alfredo vegetarian.

Can I use regular yogurt?

Yes, if all you have is regular yogurt, however it will change the taste and the texture of this pasta sauce. Greek yogurt and regular yogurt differ in texture, protein content, fat content and taste. Greek yogurt is strained to remove whey, resulting in a thicker, creamier texture with higher protein and lower fat content compared to regular yogurt. That makes it perfect for sauces like this to make them healthier but still super creamy. Regular yogurt, on the other hand, tends to be milder in taste, less thick, and not as high in protein.

Can I use heavy cream or whole milk?

Yes! While using low fat milk helps reduce the fat and calories in this recipe you can swap it out for heavy cream or whole milk if you’d like. The result will be a rich and creamy sauce that you’ll love!

  1. It sounds like a nice change of pace for dinner!
Thank you for sharing, I’m visiting today from Thursday’s Favorite Things.

  2. I was able to try this today, and I substituted the chicken broth with vegetable broth, and it still turned out great!

  3. I won’t lie. I didn’t expect much from this recipe. I am not a huge fan of greek yogurt in general, but I have used it successfully a few times, so I decided to give it a shot in hopes that maybe it might be another sauce option for when I exhaust my other go-tos.

My expectations were exceeded! This was DELICIOUS. I think I actually prefer it to the full fat version you buy in a jar, and that is not a compliment I throw out just willy nilly.

I made some changes based on what I had on hand. I used oat flour instead of white and low sodium organic broth. I also added maybe 1/8th cup feta cheese. I served mine over brown rice noodles with ground turkey. I can’t express how delicious it was.

    Thanks for the recipe!

  4. Love this! Just whipped it up for dinner using “alternative” milk, yogurt, and cheese it still came out :). I added some ground red pepper and parsley though to make up for using less garlic (it doesn’t agree with me much).

  5. Wow! This recipe is AMAZING!!! I just made some tonight and poured it over chicken, mushrooms, red peppers, spinach and pasta. So yummy!! Thank you so much for posting this…definitely my go-to Alfredo sauce from now on 🙂
