Ingredients for Big Mac Casserole-
- Ground Beef – I recommend using a lean ground beef for this recipe. I like to use at least 90% lean so there isn’t a ton of fat to drain off. You can also use ground chicken or ground turkey if you prefer.
- Salt & Pepper – Salt and pepper are important for seasoning the beef and the rest of the casserole.
- Thousand Island Dressing– Big Mac sauce is very similar to Thousand Island dressing so it makes a great base for the sauce for this casserole.
- Mayonnaise– I highly recommend using full fat regular mayonnaise. Alternatives like Miracle Whip will change the flavor too much.
- Onion– You can use a white or yellow onion whichever you prefer. If you like a little sweetness a Vidalia onion is a great option.
- Pickles- You’ll need dill pickles for authentic Big Mac flavor. You can chop up larger pickles or use a dill pickle relish for a quick option.
- Onion Powder & Garlic Powder– Onion and garlic powder add great flavor to this casserole. Make sure not to use garlic salt or onion salt.
- Cheddar Cheese– I like to use a mild cheddar cheese for this casserole. If you prefer a stronger cheese flavor you can use a sharp cheddar. A traditional Big Mac is topped with American Cheese so if you prefer that you can use American slices in place of shredded cheddar.
- Tater Tots– These make the perfect hearty crispy topping for this casserole. You can use a name brand or store brand tater tots they both work well.
- Shredded Lettuce – For the authentic Big Mac experience we like to use shredded ice burg lettuce. I buy a pre-shredded bag to make it quick and easy. If you prefer another type of lettuce you can chop it and use it.
