Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Place the ground beef in a large skillet sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook over medium or medium high heat stirring and crumbling until completely browned.
Remove from the heat and drain if needed, set aside.
Add the onion to the skillet and cook stirring frequently for about 10 minutes or until the onion is translucent. Turn off the heat.
Add the cooked ground beef back into the skillet.
Add in the 1 cup of dressing, mayo, onion powder, garlic powder, and chopped pickles. Stir until everything is evenly mixed.
Spread the ground beef mixture evenly across the bottom of a 13×9 pan.
Sprinkle grated cheese evenly across the top of the ground beef.
Spread the frozen tater tots evenly across the top of the cheese and press them down slightly.
Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and top with reserved dressing sauce, pickles and shredded cheese. Serve warm
