Pumpkin spice donuts

I love pumpkin spice coffee this time of year, and what could be better to go with it than pumpkin spice donuts!

When we got our air fryer a few months ago I wasn’t sure that we would get a lot of use out of it, but it turns out one of our favorite things to make in it is air fryer donuts.

The first recipe that we made were these, a traditional donut with a delicious chocolate icing and of course sprinkles.

So when pumpkin spice season rolled around I decided that we should try making a fall version that is full of delicious flavor!

The great thing about these air fryer donuts is that they are made with refrigerated biscuit dough, so all you have to do is doll them up and you’ve got a delicious breakfast snack or dessert.

What are the benefit of air frying donuts?

Now you could make these pumpkin spice donuts from scratch and deep fry them the way traditional donuts are made. But using the air fryer is so much easier and more beneficial.

Obviously the biggest benefit of using the air fryer to make these donuts is that there is no oil involved! This makes them lower in fat so their nutritional content is almost the same as that of the biscuits they start as

Also, there is no hot oil to deal with. I don’t know about you but I’m not the most graceful person so hot oil kind of scares me! The air fryer is safer than traditional frying so these are great to have the kids help with!

making air fryer donuts

These are so quick to make! They only have to be in the air fryer for 5 minutes and then coating them with the sugar mixture is super quick, so you can have these ready in just a short amount of time.

Here’s the recipe for these pumpkin spice donuts!

1- Package refrigerator biscuits- the large flaky layer ones work best

1/4 Cup Sugar- I used cane sugar

1- tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice – you can buy it or use this recipe to make your own

2- Tbsp. Butter (melted)

First use a small circular cookie cutter to cut the center out of your biscuits (If you don’t have a cookie cutter you can use a bottle cap)

After you have cut the centers out of your biscuits it’s time to put them in the air fryer. Lightly grease or spray the basket then place your biscuits in it. Mine is pretty small so only 3 donuts and a couple of donut holes can fit and leave space for the air to circulate.

Air fry them at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes, turning them over half way through the cooking time.

Once they are done place them on a rack or a cookie sheet to cool.

While they are cooling mix your sugar and pumpkin pie spice together in a medium size bowl.

When all the biscuits are air fried brush them with the melted butter on both sides. Then place them in the sugar/ pumpkin spice mix and flip them over to coat them completely.
