These chocolate frosted air fryer donuts use canned biscuits and the air fryer to create an easy and delicious treat! Add some delicious chocolate frosting and sprinkles to top them off!
Several months ago my youngest son talked my husband into buying an air fryer.
He decided we desperately needed on, and I was sure that it was going to be one of those kitchen appliances that gets used once and then goes in the back of the cabinet to die.
We all have one of those right? That corner cabinet that you have to crawl back into where things like snow cone machines, hot dog toasters, and mini crock pots go for years on end?? (BTW the snow cone machine and hot dog toaster… both things my youngest HAD to have)
I will admit here that I was wrong about the air fryer.
It gets used a lot. We mostly use it for tater tots, chicken nuggets… pretty much anything that the microwave makes soggy. Ours isn’t big enough to make large batches of anything, so when I’ve used it to make dinner I end up having to do several batches… so it’s mostly used for lunches, snacks, and anything else my kids decide to throw in it.
Well recently we discovered that you could make donuts in it…. yes my friends air fryer donuts, but I was skeptical.
These are made with canned biscuits, in the air fryer… I wondered if they would actually be anything close to a delicious donut.
They are, these air fryer donuts are delicious. The chocolate frosting really pushed them over the edge of donut-y-ness. I love a chocolate dipped donut so in my mind the frosting is a must.
My boys agree, we were all surprised at how amazing these were especially since they are crazy easy!
If chocolate frosting isn’t your thing (I don’t know why it wouldn’t be!) You can always toss these in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for a different tasty donut experience.
The fun thing about these is that they are great to make with kids. My youngest loved helping out with making these… especially when it came to the sprinkles. ALL. THE. SPRINKLES.
Here’s what you’ll need for your own Chocolate Frosted Air Fryer Donuts
1- Can of Biscuits- You want large biscuits with flaky layers
4-Tbsp. Butter
4-Tbsp Milk
1-Tbsp Corn Syrup
1/2- Cup Chocolate Chips
1/4- Cup Powdered Sugar
First you’ll want to cut the center out of your biscuits with a round cookie cutter about 1 in in diameter. You can find small biscuit/cookie cutters on Amazon
We cut them all out at once, you can lay them out on the counter or a cookie sheet as you finish cutting them out.
Once they’re all cut out you can start cooking them. Lightly spray your air fryer basket with no stick spray and then place as many donuts and donut holes in the basket as you can. You want to leave them some room because they will puff up a bit.
Now air fry them at 350 for 4-5 minutes, then turn them over and keep cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
Once they are done set them aside to cool.
While the donuts are cooling it’s time to make the chocolate glaze.
In the bowl of a double boiler (or a heat proof bowl over a pan) place your butter, chocolate chips, and corn syrup. Heat over medium heat until the chocolate chips are melted and smooth.
Now mix in your powdered sugar and milk, stir until smooth.
Now it’s time to dip your donuts! Just dunk the top of your donut in the chocolate glaze, hold it a moment until it stops dripping and then set it on a cooling rack or cookie sheet.
Add sprinkles while the icing is still soft so they’ll stick. We dipped a few then added sprinkles then dipped a few more.
Now you can eat them while the icing is still gooey or let them cool for about 15-30 minutes and the glaze harden just a touch.
These air fryer donuts are great with a cup of coffee or a glass of milk! Enjoy!!

Same thing- the ratios make way too think of a liquid! It does not create a frosting that sits up. Love the biscuits in the air fryer thought- will be experimenting with some other frosting options
