In my house we love a delicious rotisserie chicken! Often when I am too busy to cook I’ll grab one from the grocery store for a quick weeknight dinner. I also love them when it comes to meal prep, they are great for using in recipes like chicken soup, chicken tacos, chicken salad, chicken casseroles or any other chicken recipe.
Learning to make a rotisserie chicken in the air fryer has been an absolute game changer. This is by far the easiest way to make a whole chicken that is delicious, juicy and flavorful, and air frying is so much easier than any other cooking method. Since I discovered this easy way to make a rotisserie style air fryer chicken I make them at home instead of stopping by the store to grab one.
Traditional rotisserie chicken is cooked on a rotisserie spit and the chicken is rotated as it cooks. In this recipe the chicken is flipped halfway through cooking so that it stays juicy and the skin cooks evenly. It gives you the same effect as a rotisserie in your air fryer.
If you don’t have an air fryer don’t worry you can still make a delicious Rotisserie Style Chicken In The Oven and enjoy the delicious flavor!

Tips for making this Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken
Use a smaller chicken– You want to make sure to pick a chicken that will fit in the basket of your air fryer with plenty of room for the hot air to circulate around it, so the size of your chicken is important. I use a 3-4 pound chicken, if you have a large air fryer you could probably use a 5-6 pound chicken.
Dry the chicken thoroughly before seasoning– Before seasoning your chicken you’ll want to make sure that the skin is nice and dry. Using a paper towel to dry the chicken skin before seasoning helps the seasoning stick and helps the skin get nice and crispy as it cooks.
Preheat the air fryer- Preheating your air fryer for about 5 minutes helps the chicken to cook evenly and have crispy skin.
Let it rest- Letting the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving. While the chicken rests the juices sink into the meat so that you have delicious juicy chicken.
Use a meat thermometer- The best way to tell if your chicken is fully cooked is to use a meat thermometer. My favorite kind is an instant-read thermometer. For best results you want to take the chicken out when the thermometer reads 165 in the thickest part of the thigh or breast. By checking the internal temperature of the chicken you can make sure not to overcook the meat ensuring juicy meat.
Use your favorite seasoning- With store-bought rotisserie chicken you usually don’t get much choice in seasonings. By making it at home you can use any seasoning blend that you like! We love to do a lemon pepper blend, Italian seasoning, taco seasoning or even Asian inspired seasonings! You can season this chicken the perfect way to suit any dish!
What to serve with air fryer rotisserie chicken-
This chicken makes a delicious main course, and pairs well with so many delicious side dishes! Here are some of our favorites for an easy chicken dinner-
Vegetables– We love to serve this with our favorite veggies. In the winter I pair it with roasted vegetables that I pop in the oven while the chicken cooks, broccoli, butternut squash or brussels sprouts are some of our favorites. (We love these air fryer brussels sprouts too!) In the summer I like to throw veggies on the grill, zucchini, corn on the cob, or any other seasonal vegetables are perfect! For something quick and easy I like to steam some green beans or broccoli and top them with butter and garlic to have a side dish in minutes. These Slow Cooker BBQ Green Beans with Bacon are a great make ahead side to have ready when your chicken is done!
Salad- Toss a quick salad together with your favorite veggies for the perfect side to this chicken. You can also make a delicious Cesar salad or cobb salad and chop your chicken on top!
Mashed Potatoes- Mashed potatoes are a classic with roast chicken and of course they pair perfectly with this chicken. You can even whip up some gravy with the chicken drippings that will be in the bottom of your air fryer!
Rice, Pasta or Quinoa- For a quick carbohydrate whip up some rice, pasta or quinoa. You can season them in your favorite way, or keep it simple with just a little butter and salt. We love to make macaroni and cheese to go with this chicken for an easy dinner that everyone loves!
