FAQ & Tips

What brownie mix is best?

For these truffles you can use your favorite brownie mix! Avoid any that have nuts or chocolate chips added, you’ll just want plain brownie mix. You’ll also want to make sure to get a 19 oz box to have enough mix for your truffles.

Why do I need to microwave the brownie mix?

You might find the first step of this recipe a little weird because it involves heating the brownie mix in the microwave. The reason for this is because food safety rules advise against eating uncooked flour. Heating it in the microwave can “cook” it enough to kill any germs or bacteria.

To make rolling easier-

When it’s time to roll your truffles it can get a little sticky. Slightly dampening your hands can help keep the mixture from sticking. I like to keep a damp paper towel next to where I’m working to dampen my hands.

A collage of four pictures showing how to make Christmas brownie truffles. The first shows a glass mixing bowl with brownie mix, chocolate syrup, corn syrup and water. In the second all of the ingredients have been mixed together. In the third sprinkles have been placed in a shallow container next to the brownie mixture. In the fourth balls of the brownie mixture have been rolled in sprinkles.

Place sprinkles in a shallow dish.

Scoop out 1 tbsp of brownie mixture at a time and roll into a ball. Slightly dampening your hands for rolling keeps the batter from sticking to them.

Roll in sprinkles to coat. Place on plate or baking sheet.

Repeat until all batter has been made into truffles.

Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Store in an airtight container and serve chilled.
