5 Ways to Avoid Grocery Shopping With Your Kids
Grocery shopping without your kids can feel like a vacation! It can also save you a ton of time and money! Here are 5 easy ways to avoid grocery shopping with your kids!
“Can we get these cookies?”
“Can we get Doritos?”
“Hey, Mom look at this!”
If your kids are anything like mine this is what you hear throughout the course of grocery shopping.
When my boys were little I always made sure to lay the ground rules before grocery shopping. How many things they could pick, how they needed to behave to get a treat, that kind of thing and it always worked really well.
While I’ve never minded having them along with me, I think every mom knows that when you get to grocery shop by yourself it feels like a vacation.
You can stroll through the aisles unencumbered, take your time picking out your produce, pick up maxi pads without anyone asking in their “outside voice” what they are for.
Or maybe you’re like me and you’d rather skip the store all together. Maybe the idea of checking something off your list without spending an hour doing it is really appealing!
No matter your preference cutting your kids out of the grocery shopping equation can make the process much less stressful, save you time and save you money!!
So Here are 5 Ways to Avoid Grocery Shopping With Your Kids
Leave Them at Home-
So this seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes you may not think of all the possibilities. You can leave with your partner, even if that means grocery shopping early in the am, or late at night. I have gone to Walmart a few times at 10 pm! It is quiet, there aren’t many people there and you’re in and out in no time!
Do you have an older child that is old enough to take care of their siblings? Grocery shopping is a great opportunity to let them try their hand at staying at home. Here are some great guidelines for making the decision to leave your kiddos home alone. If they are old enough and you are comfortable with it then head out on your own!
Swap With a Friend-
A lot of people think about swapping child care with a friend for a date night or special ocassion, but what about for grocery shopping? Do you have a friend who would love to wander Target drinking a hot latte knowing her kids were safe with you?
Set up a swap! You could even have a standing time that works for both of you and make it a weekly deal!
Use Instacart Grocery Delivery-
This is my personal favorite. Not only is the shopping done kid free it is done from home!
With Instacart you just get online, place your order and it arrives at your house! You can usually get delivery within 2 hours! That means you can order tonight’s dinner ingredients at lunchtime and be good to go! Instacart is a great option if you have little kids, a sick child, your car is in the shop, or you just want to stay home!
Use Curbside Service-
Most major grocery chains now offer curbside pick up, and if you haven’t tried it yet, let me tell you, you are missing out!
I have used our local chain, Giant Eagle, and WalMart’s grocery pickup and it is a huge time saver! Once again you just hop online and fill your cart! What I like about curbside services is that you can coordinate them with when you are already out. We have a library event we go to each week and I schedule my pick up to grab on the way home! It is super convinient!
Use Amazon Prime Pantry-
I love Amazon. I’m fairly certain that if we ever move my mailman will do a happy dance because he doesn’t have to carry my packages up my driveway anymore.
Especially my Prime Pantry boxes! I love Prime Pantry for staples like laundry soap, fabric softner, paper towels, toilet paper… all my cleaning and paper products. I also love it for pantry staples like coconut oil, granola bars… most anything! There are often coupons or discounts available
Most time delivery is within a few days and boom you have all your homekeeping supplies, snacks etc. replenished and ready to go.
Have you ever tried any of these ideas to avoid grocery shopping with your kids? I would love to know what works for you if you have any other great ideas for making grocery shopping easier!
