FAQ & Tips for Hot Chocolate Fudge
Can I use only one kind of chocolate chips?
Yes! I like to have a mix of semisweet chocolate chips and milk chocolate chips for this recipe because I like the flavor it produces. However if you prefer the delicious flavor of just milk chocolate or dark chocolate you can use just one kind of chocolate chips. You can even use white chocolate chips in place of one of the chocolates to create a more mild chocolate flavor.
What kind of hot cocoa mix is best?
A lot of the hot chocolate flavor of this fudge comes from the addition of hot cocoa mix. I used Swiss Miss for my fudge but you can use any brand that you prefer. You can also use homemade hot cocoa mix if you have a recipe you love.
What if I cant find Marshmallow Bits?
Marshmallow bits or dehydrated marshmallows are the tiny marshmallows that are in packets of hot chocolate mix. You can usually find them in the aisle with the hot chocolate or you can order them online. If you can’t find them you can use regular mini marshmallows, you can either use them whole or cut them into fourths and spread them in an even layer across the top of the fudge.
How to store this Hot Cocoa Fudge-
This chocolate marshmallow fudge stores well in an airtight container. It can be stored at room temperature for softer fudge or in the refrigerator for longer term storage. This hot chocolate fudge is an easy dessert to make ahead and have on hand for parties or dessert.
Variations and additions-
This fudge tastes like hot cocoa and just like hot cocoa it is delicious with additional flavors. You can add additional extracts like peppermint or hazelnut, add in instant coffee for a mocha chocolate fudge flavor. If you are a marshmallow lover you can add mini marshmallows into the fudge mixture to have them throughout the fudge. You can also melt extra chocolate to drizzle on the fudge or add colorful sprinkles to the top of the fudge.
Can I make this fudge in a microwave?
Yes! I like to use the double boiler method when making fudge but if you prefer you can use a microwave. Just place the sweetened condescend milk, chocolate chips and butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave the mixture in 30-second increments, stirring well after each increment. Continue microwaving and stirring until the mixture is smooth and all the chocolate chips are completely melted. This typically takes 2-4 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave.
Remove the chocolate mixture from the microwave and stir in the hot chocolate drink mix and vanilla until they are well blended.

Here’s How to make Hot Chocolate Fudge
Prepare a square 8×8 pan by lining it with aluminum foil or parchment paper and buttering or spray with cooking spray to help prevent sticking
Place sweetened condensed milk, and butter in the bowl of a double boiler (or a heat safe bowl over a medium saucepan with about an inch of water in the bottom) and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until heated through and well mixed.
Add in both kinds of chocolate chips and continue heating until the chocolate chips are melted and well incorporated. Remove from the heat.
Stir in the vanilla extract and hot chocolate powder into the melted chocolate and stir until everything is melted and thoroughly mixed.
Pour the fudge mixture evenly into the prepared pan and immediately sprinkle the marshmallows on top, gently press down on them to help them stick on the fudge.
Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
When ready to serve lift the fudge out of the pan with the foil and place on a cutting board.
With a sharp knife cut it into 16 small squares before serving.
Store hot cocoa fudge refrigerated in an airtight container.
