A slice of pineapple adds a fun tropical vibe especially to drinks with a pineapple-rum layer.
Candy makes another great garnish, colorful candies like rainbow airheads, nerds ropes, or even jelly beans make a fun addition!
Tips for Making Layered Cocktails
When you’re making these fun cocktails you want your layers to look beautiful. Even if your blue layer runs into your yellow layer it will still taste amazing, but for the presentation here are some tips to keep your layers separate and make you look like a pro bartender!
Density Matters: The key to successful layering is understanding the density of your ingredients. Heavier liquids sink while lighter ones float. Typically, the denser ingredients, like syrups and liqueurs, should be at the bottom, and the lighter ones, like spirits, on top. Thankfully these recipes have been developed with that in mind, make sure to pay attention to the recipe so they turn out well!
Use the Back of a Spoon: Slowly pour your ingredients over the back of a spoon. This helps disperse the liquid gently, preventing it from mixing with the layer below. Hold the spoon close to the surface of the drink and pour the liquid slowly and steadily.
Chill Your Ingredients: Make sure your ingredients are chilled before layering. Cold liquids have a better chance of maintaining their density and not mixing with the layers below.
Use a Proper Glass: Tall, narrow glasses like a Collins glass, hurricane glass or a flute work best for layered cocktails. The smaller surface area makes it easier to pour the layers without them mixing together.
Mix ingredients separately- If one of your layers is a mixture of ingredients like vodka and blue curaçao you want to mix them together before adding the mixture into the glass. Use a cocktail shaker or a glass measuring cup with a spout so that it is easy to pour.

Thanks so much for sharing this! We made the rainbow warrior for a midweek date night and loved it! I’m not a big drinker and I definitely overdid it a bit. Would recommend switching to a 1/2 oz of coconut rum if you’re a bit more sensitive. Unless you like having to call in a carpet cleaner after your date nights haha
