FAQ & Tips for Success

Can I use any kind of chocolate? I used Hershey’s chocolate bars for this recipe because you can break it into evenly sized little chocolate pieces. However you can use your favorite chocolate bars. I like to use milk chocolate but you can also use semi-sweet or dark chocolate if that’s what you prefer.

What if I can’t find marshmallow bits? Marshmallow bits are often found near the hot cocoa in the grocery store. However if you can’t find them you can either skip adding them to the top of the hand pies. Or you can use mini marshmallows and cut them into small pieces to add on the top of each hand pie.

Here’s what you need to make these hand pies

Refrigerated Pie Crust

3 Full Size Hershey Chocolate Bars

4 Tablespoons Butter

½ Cup Graham Cracker Crumbs

½ Cup Marshmallow Creme (marshmallow fluff)

1 oz Cream Cheese (softened)

2 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar

Decorating-

½ Cup Chocolate Chips

1 Tablespoon Shortening or Coconut Oil

Marshmallow Bits

Here’s how to make these little hand pies

First preheat your oven to 425, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat

On a clean surface roll out the pie crust and cut out 3 inch circles with the top of a glass, a biscuit cutter, or a cookie cutter. You should be able to get 9 out of each circle. You can ball up the excess dough and roll it out and cut out 2 more circles if desired. So you will have a total of 18-22 circles of dough.

Next in a medium size bowl with an electric mixer combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and marshmallow fluff, until well mixed.

Melt the butter and place graham cracker crumbs in a shallow dish or bowl

Take each circle of dough and brush one side with melted butter and then dip in graham cracker crumbs, press gently to help the crumbs stick. Set aside, and repeat until all circles have been dipped.

Next with a dough circle plain side up place 2-3 pieces of chocolate bar in the center. Top the chocolate with a spoonful of the marshmallow mixture.

Top with another piece of pie crust with the graham cracker side facing up.

Using the tines of a fork crimp around the sides of the pie crust to seal. If you have trouble getting them to stick lightly brush the inside edges with water before sealing.

Place finished pies on prepared baking sheet and bake for 13-17 minutes or until golden brown, for best results make sure not to overbake.

Allow the pies to cool before decorating.

To decorate melt chocolate chips and shortening in a double boiler or in the microwave heating in 30 second increments stirring in between heating.

Once the chocolate is melted place it in a piping bag and cut off the corner to form a small hole.(or you can use a zip top bag) Drizzle chocolate across each pie and immediately sprinkle with marshmallow bits.

Allow to cool completely before serving or storing. Store in an air tight container.
