I love to have a well stocked freezer, and one of the easiest things to have on hand for a quick meal are frozen burgers. There are store bought ones that are really tasty or sometimes I like to make a bunch at once and pop them in the freezer. While throwing them on the grill is a great option one of my favorite ways to cook them is to pop them in the air fryer.

Ingredients for Frozen Air Fryer Hamburgers

Frozen Hamburger Patties– I tested both 1/4lb (4oz) burger patties as well as 1/3lb (5.3oz) patties. Both worked well but the time needed to be adjusted. You can use your favorite store bought burger patty or homemade ones.

Salt, Pepper & Spices– No one likes an unseasoned burger! We like to season ours with basic seasonings like salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika or even a seasoning like Montreal steak seasoning. I recommend using salt and pepper and a blend of whatever else you like.

Buns & Toppings– No burger is complete without a tasty bun and toppings. We love a slice of cheese and the classics like lettuce tomato and mayonnaise. Bacon, ketchup, mustard and pickles are other additions that are delicious!

Non- Stick Spray– I like to lightly spritz my air fryer basket with olive oil cooking spray to keep things from sticking. This isn’t necessary but a great idea.

Tips for Cooking Frozen Burgers in an Air Fryer-

Preheat the air fryer-

Preheating helps ensure even heating and cooking which is a must for food that is being cooked from frozen!

Don’t overcook them-

No one likes a dry burger! Make sure not to over cook your burgers by watching them carefully. One way to tell if they are cooked through is if the juices run clear. My favorite way to check is with an instant read meat thermometer so there is no guessing.

Don’t overcrowd the basket-

You need room for the hot air to circulate in your air fryer so you don’t want to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Make sure to leave about an inch of space in between your patties if you are cooking multiple ones. Every air fryer cooks a little differently so make sure to keep an eye on your burgers.

Add cheese at the end-

If you like your cheese to be nice and melted you can add it when you have 1-2 minutes of cooking time left.

Line the air fryer basket for easy clean up-

Burger patties can be a little on the greasy side and be a little messy to clean up. Before cooking your frozen burger patties you can line your basket with an air fryer liner or a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil with holes in it to let the air circulate.

FAQ for Air Fryer Frozen Burgers

How can I tell when the burgers are cooked through?

The best way to tell if a burger is cooked through is with an instant read meat thermometer. You want them to be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees. If you don’t have a meat thermometer you can pierce the center and if the juices are clear it is done, if they are still pink or red they need to cook a little more.

Can I use this method for other burger patties?

Absolutely! This recipe is perfect for beef patties it can also be used with other frozen patties. Turkey burgers, ground chicken burgers, or even veggie burgers can be made in the air fryer. Different types of frozen cookies will have different cook times. Different meats should cook about the same as beef burgers, but veggie burgers likely won’t need as long. Keep an eye on them and adjust the cooking time as needed.

Can I cook multiple burgers at once?

Absolutely! The air fryer is a great way to make one burger or several burgers at once. Just make sure to place the frozen patties in a single layer in the air fryer and make sure there is space between them to allow the air to circulate.

Halfway through the cooking time you’ll want to flip the burgers and if they are not cooking evenly you can rearrange them to ensure they cook evenly.

What to serve with air fryer burgers?

We love to serve these air fried burgers with classic sides like french fries or sweet potato fries. They are also great with classics like potato salad, pasta salad or cucumber salads.
