Are you looking for a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day? A nice warm shower with these relaxing shower melts are a sure way to get ready for a great night’s sleep!
My family is on sort of an alternate schedule. My husband works afternoons and doesn’t get home until midnight. Since we homeschool it’s nice for everyone to be on a stay up later and sleep in kind of routine.
The only time it doesn’t work is when we have to be up bright and early for field trips or Dr.’s appointments. I learned a long time ago that the best way to get my family up and moving in the morning is by starting preparations the night before. Lay out clothes, plan a quick grab and go breakfast, make sure everyone has their alarms set. Since we only have one bathroom a big time saver is showering at night!
There’s something super relaxing about taking a warm shower and then snuggling into bed. It can be made even more relaxing with the help of these great little shower melts! I love my essential oils and love using them in lots of ways and one of my favorites is in my “Wake Up Shower Melts” they are great for getting up and moving in the morning. So, I figured why not make a similar thing but with a blend of oils to help with relaxation!
These could be made with a lot of different combinations of essential oils. I chose a blend I love from Eden’s Garden that contains a bunch of great oils. If you wanted to simplify these or swap that blend out I’d go with lavender, chamomile and frankincense, but it’s really up to you to pick the oils that relax you the most! I added some others to the blend because I like the combination but the Good Night blend can easily stand on it’s own.
These relaxing shower melts (aka shower steamers) are easy to use and store nicely in an air tight container! This “recipe” makes 6 so if you want to make more go ahead and double it!
Here’s how to make these Relaxing Shower Melts!
1/2 Cup Baking Soda
1/4 Cup Citric Acid (you can find this in the canning section of the grocery store or order it on Amazon)
1/4 Cup Corn Starch
Good Night Blend Essential Oil
Lavender Essential Oil
Frankincense Essential oil
(here are my favorite resources for affordable essential oils)
Water- about 2 tbsp.
Silicone muffin wrappers, or other silicone mold
The first thing you want to do is mix your baking soda, citric acid, and corn starch together in a large bowl. Then create a little well in the middle. Drip in 15 drops of the Good Night blend, and 5 drops each lavender and frankincense. Stir until they are well incorporated into the baking soda mixture.
Now you’re going to stir in your water just a little at a time. Pour a little (about 1/2 a tsp) in the well in the middle and stir quickly, it will fizz a little bit but not too much. Once that water is incorporated pour in a little more and stir it in. Keep stirring in the water in 1/2 tsp increments until the mixture holds together when pinched.
Now press your sleepy time shower melt mixture into your molds or silicone muffin wrappers. I like to go ahead and put mine in a muffin pan, it helps them stay sturdy while I press it in. Use the back of a spoon and press down firmly, they will rise a little. To make six you want to fill them about 1/3 of the way up.
(As a side note, I keep a set of silicone muffin wrappers specifically for crafty projects, that way you don’t have to worry about any residue from projects getting in your muffins!)
You want to let them dry for 24 hours before removing from the wrappers,
Once they’re dry they’re ready to use! Just sit one on the floor of the shower and it will dissolve letting it’s relaxing scent fill the air!
Are you a shower at night or in the morning person? I hope these relaxing shower melts help you relax and unwind!
