Spring is upon us! When you live in a state like Ohio where the winters are long and snowy the first sunshine, bird chirps, and flowers of spring are amazing! Like a lot of people I like to give my house a good spring cleaning to celebrate the warmer weather and wake my home up after a long winter of hibernating!
However, I am not one who likes to dedicate a ton of time to cleaning, especially when there is sunshine to enjoy! So the faster I can get finished the happier I am! One thing I’ve learned over the years is that doing some deep cleaning helps the everyday tidying to go much faster and helps keep my house organized!
So here are my tips for a quick and easy spring deep cleaning!!
Make a list – If you’re anything like me you have a little cleaning adhd. I get started in the kitchen, carry something that needs put away in my bedroom, realize my sheets need changed, carry them to the laundry room where I see a pile of my son’s clothes that need put away…. It goes on and on! So step one for my spring deep clean is to make a list! I write down what I want to accomplish. Then I figure out if those tasks can be accomplished in a day or if they need split up. I make a seperate list if there are things my super hubby needs to take care of. Starting with a list and dividing it if necessary helps you stay focused and it feels great to check tasks off!!
Prepare your tools – Another huge part of getting organized is to prepare your tools! Get everything you need together and make sure you have the cleaning supplies to get the job done! Be sure you’re well stocked with cleaners, rags, brooms, mops etc. I always make sure I’m well stocked with Clorox cleaning wipes! We have serious spring allergies in my house and the Clorox wipes wipe away 99.9% of the most common allergens!* They make cleaning simple and help my allergy sufferers to be comfortable in their home!
Head to your local Kroger to stock up on all the cleaning supplies you need! (I’ll include special savings information here) Make sure to check out all the great allergy solutions and take advantage of savings here.
Purge and organize – I find before I start cleaning it’s best to do a big purge! This year I cleaned out my basement and donated a huge truckload to the local animal shelters’ annual yard sale. It doesn’t matter what you do with your extra junk but getting it out of the house is a huge help in cleaning. Why keep moving and working around stuff that isn’t serving a purpose in your home? Once you’ve purged it’s easier to organize and get cleaning! Be ruthless, if you don’t use it get rid of it! If you don’t wear it get rid of it! Get a friend or family member to help if it’s a big undertaking!
Wipe and open windows – Our winters here in Ohio drag on and on and on! When it’s finally spring nothing motivates me more then cleaning the windows and then throwing them open to let the warm air in! For a through spring deep clean make sure you vacuum out the crevices and wipe down the windows and the frames! Let that sunshine come through to brighten your home!
I always keep FLONASE on hand during spring cleaning so that any pollen that comes in the windows or dust I stir up doesn’t affect my family members with allergies! Unlike most allergy Pills, FLONASE Relieves** nasal congestion plus runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose, itchy eyes, and watery eyes. It is a must have for spring cleaning!
Change Furnace filters – A great way to make sure your cleaning isn’t in vain is to change your furnace filters. Furnace filters trap the dust and particles that circulate through your house so it’s so important that they are clean! Spring is a great time to check them and change them if necessary!
Clean neglected places– Just like every mom I clean every day. Vacuuming, dusting, dishes… they all need tended to to keep my house from becoming completely chaotic. So Spring cleaning is when I make a list of the neglected places in my house and give them a good scrubbing. Light fixtures and ceiling fans, baseboards, under the beds, under appliances, under furniture there are a lot of places we just kind of ignore on a daily basis where dust can really pile up. So take note of those places and clean them up! Clorox wipes are great for dusting and wiping down those neglected places. Their texture and cleaning power pick up all the dust and dirt quickly and easily!
Take down and wash curtains – I know there a people who wash their curtains pretty regularly… I’m not really one of them! But at least a couple of times a year I like to take them all down and was them. It helps eliminate dust and keeps them looking great! Spring is a great time to do it, nice clean windows, warm air and pretty curtains will make your home look and feel awesome!
Clean door mats – Ugh there is so much dirt and yuck that builds up in door mats especially in the winter! Take them outside and give them a good shake, vacuum them or wash them if you can. If they’re looking sad or not catching dirt go ahead and replace them! A clean house starts with catching as much dirt at the door as possible (we even trained our 100 lb dog to wipe his feet!)
With the right tools and the right approach giving your home a spring deep clean can be quick and painless! Then you can move on to enjoying the beautiful weather and all that spring has to offer!
*Use Clorox products as directed for removal of non-living allergens like pet dander, dust mite matter and pest matter on hard nonporous surfaces in your home. Keep out of reach of children.
**vs single-ingredient antihistamines which do not treat nasal congestion
