Hello my name is Krista and I am disorganized….
Maybe I should say I struggle with organization, I am organizationally challenged…
There’s no real way to sugar coat it, I have piles of paper, folders bursting at the seams, and a closet that would make an organized person cringe.
I am, however, ok with that. I learned a long time ago that for me there is a method to my madness, and the things that I really need to keep in order I can usually find a system to manage them.
Except my calendar….
I have one for my blogging schedule, one for family activities, one for my Ava Anderson business, and a whole notebook full of the boy’s school work schedule. These don’t include my almost daily to do lists, notes on calls I’ve made, and other miscellaneous things I have to write down… there’s a notebook full of them too.
I’ve attempted several times to get them all coordinated, but it hasn’t worked.
One thing I’ve never tried is an online planner. I honestly didn’t think I’d like one. I’m a pen and paper kind of girl.

I was excited when I got the opportunity to try Homeschool Planet. I figured I’d give it a go and see if it would work for me, if I could finally get all my stuff coordinated in one place.
Turns out I could, it took a little getting used to, but I’m super happy I found it.
#1- It’s Printable– Yes, yes, I did just say it was an online planner. But it’s also printable. You can schedule everything and then print out your week so that you have on paper too. I love this. I can get everything planned then print it out. Once I have the paper copy if I need to jot anything down or make a note or changes I can do it on the paper. It appeals to the part of me that likes to have a hard copy, but it helps that everything is stored online and organized there first.
#2 It’s Flexible- Part of organizing everything online is the great ability to move things around within the calendar. You can make you to do list, give your kids assignments, put in music lessons or what ever else you have going on. If life happens and you need to change things it’s a simple click to move them. There is even a feature where you can carry everything forward so that if your child is sick you can just bump all their assignments forward without having to manually reschedule them. It’s great if you have something come up, or your kiddo is having a day where they haven’t been able to get all their work done, just a simple click and they’re moved ahead.
#3 Everything is in One Place– Ok this took me some getting used to, but it’s awesome. You can put everything on here… everything. You can organize each child, their assignments and tasks all in one place. You can add a widget for your to do list, your shopping list, even the weather. You can add a section for your self if you have something like a blog that you want to keep track of.
#4 It is Available Everywhere (and sends reminders!)– The beauty of having an online planner is that no matter where you are you can access it. As long as you can get online you can check your calendar! There isn’t a mobile version but you can create a shortcut on your mobile device that will connect you right to your calendar. So with just a click you can look at what you’ve got going on. You can also set it send you daily reminders which are great so you can see what you’ve got going on every morning when you check your email.
#5- It Encourages Independence One thing we’ve been working on this year, especially with Nathan is working independently. Having the calendar set up so he can log on and check out what he needs to do is great. He’s able to check his daily assignments and then check them off when he’s finished. It’s a great way for me to keep track of what he’s doing and for him to manage his time! I know this is a feature we’ll be using even more as he gets older!
Bonus– You can try it for free!! I love free trials! This is something that is well worth giving a trial to see if it will work for you!

I honestly never thought I’d find myself using an online calendar, or that I would find a planner that I could put everything into… I was wrong! This works beautifully, and is an amazing asset for any homeschool family!
I’d love to know if you use an online planner or what calendar system works for your family!
