Want to give your home a warm fall scent, without chemical fragrance? These all natural fall scented wax tarts smell amazing, and are simple to make! These wax melts are easy to make and can be used in any tart burner!
One of my favorite things about fall is the smells! When you’re outside you have the fresh crisp air, the smell of the leaves, rich woodsy and spicy. Inside you have delicious apple and pumpkin desserts, cinnamon, vanilla, all mixing in the air.
It’s amazing!!
I have always been a fan of candles and scented wax tarts, I love that they can fill your house with the wonderful scent of fall in just a little while and you can smell it all day long!
However, over the last few years I’ve been trying really hard to eliminate chemicals from our home and the fragrance that saturates most commercially made candles and tarts is chock full of yucky chemicals!
What’s a girl to do?
Well if you want something done right you’ve got to do it yourself right?
So I’ve taken matters into my own hands and whipped up these bad boys, and they do not disappoint.
These are all natural no yucky chemicals, full of amazing fall scent, and you can have them made in about 15 minutes, and as soon as they harden they’re ready to use! You can make them in various shapes and sizes, they would make a fantastic homemade gift!
Here’s what you’ll need for these fall scented wax tarts-
2- Cups Beeswax Pellets
1/4- Cup Coconut Oil
30 – Drops Cinnamon Essential Oil
30- Drops Clove Essential Oil
30- Drops Orange Essential Oil
40- Drops Vanilla Essential Oil
(You can find my favorite resources for affordable essential oils here)
Silicone or paper muffin wrappers, or another silicone mold
Mason jar or double boiler for melting
Before you get started lay out your muffin wrappers or mold and have them ready for when your wax is melted and ready to go!
I highly recommend using a Mason jar for the melting of the beeswax, even reuse jar or can that’s been cleaned out, that way you can just pitch it when you are done- beeswax is a pain to clean up!
Place your jar or can in a pot of water, and pour your beeswax and coconut oil into it. Bring your water to a gentle boil.
Let your beeswax and coconut oil melt completely, I like to use a bamboo skewer to mix if needed… you can pitch it too! Once it’s nice and melted turn off the heat and add in your essential oils.
Now pour your wax into your mold or muffin wrappers. If you’re using muffin size molds fill them about 1/3 full.
You can use pretty festive wrappers if you want to give these as gifts, and just leave them for a lovely present.
You can let them cool at room temperature or if you want to speed the process up you can pop them in the fridge! Once solid they’re ready to use!
Once they are all cooled and solid you can just simply peel them out of the wrappers or mold and put them in your favorite tart burner to fill your home with amazing fall scent!

Just love all these recipes, so much nicer than the chemical ones. My favourite essential oil is sandelwood and I’ve never seen a cobweb in my house yet. It’s also a good perfume, and insect deterrent, as I live in Australia and we have mozzies and sand flies that just love to bite. Thank you for this site as it’s what I’ve been looking for.

How long does the perfume last in these melts?
Krista says
I keep them in a ziplock bag to keep the smell in but once they’re in the burner the smell lasts for like 12 hours, I usually turn it on for 6-8 hours at a day and they usually last me 2 days!
Jennifer says
Based on your instructions, how many tarts does this make?
Krista says
The way I did it & in my molds it made 10!
Sherry Fryk says
Do you put all 4 oils in one batch ?
Glenda says
Do you use one Essential oil or all four?
Krista says
All 4!
Krista says
Yes all four go in!

Is there another way to measure the beeswax? I will be grating mine. Is it two cups any way you go about it?

This looks wonderful and easy! What and where did you get the lantern that is shown with one of the wax melts on top of it in the first picture?
Krista says
It’s actually from Walmart!

Have you tried making any of these in relaxing scents that might aid in sleeping? Maybe lavender mixed with something else. Would love your thoughts or some suggestions about how to choose how many scents to mix.

I love essential oils as much as the next person but please stop comparing them to other products that have chemicals. Every single thing on this Earth, is a chemical or made up of or from chemical reactions. Some are dangerous. Some are fine. No one can escape it. When you create your melts, you are creating a chemical scent. Did you realize that? You call it natural. It’s a synthetic fragrance made from natural sources.
I think this is a wonderful and fun idea, just misguided in the phrasing. =)

Hi. Your fall and Christmas combinations sound great. Have you come up with any other ideas for the spring and summer?
Krista says
I’ll actually be posting the spring one later this week!! Check back! They smell amazing!

There are no such things as yucky chemicals. Everything on this planet is made of chemicals, mostly only harmful or irritable chemicals are “bad”.

Hey there!
So I have tried making several different batches of my own wax melts using beeswax and coconut oil and essential oil scents…. But every single batch after they have cooled and hardened and I try them in my wax warmer, they do NOT smell. I can’t smell it at all. I have even used an entire bottle if essential oil in the beeswax/coconut oil and they still don’t smell!! What do I do??
Krista says
There could be a couple things. Maybe you’re adding the oils when your beeswax mixture is too hot and they are evaporating as they cool. Try letting it cool a bit before adding them in. Or it could be that they do smell and you’re just getting used to it and can’t smell it. Try stepping out of the house and coming back in to see if you can smell them! Depending on what oils you’re using too it could make a difference, maybe try a different brand or a stronger smelling oil! Hope that helps!

Have you used soy wax in these? Or just beeswax.

This is the first time i have visited your site and i would like to come back many times. However, you print in a very light gray. I’m low-visioned and it was very hard for me to read. It took me a very long time, it was difficult. I can tell you that I’m not the only person out here with low vision. Please consider printing in a regular dark print.

What can you use in place of coconut oil? My daughter is allergic to coconut.
Krista says
You can omit it if you’d like. Your melts will just be a little bit harder and melt more slowly. You could also use shea butter or almond oil.
