thieves oil

Over the past few years essential oils have become wildly popular. It seems like they’re everywhere and my house is no exception!

One of the blends that really intrigues me is the one commonly referred to as Thieves, or The Four Thieves.

Legend has it that during the plague there was a group of four thieves who mixed up a blend of herbs and spices that protected them while they robbed and pilfered the gravelly ill and recently dead…. Upstanding fellows for sure, they deserve to have such a popular blend named after them!

The story goes on to say that when they were captured they released their recipe in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Is the story true? Who knows. But what is known is that these oils all contain properties that may help ward off germs, and promote health.

The other awesome thing is that it smells great. I am lover of cloves so their feature in this recipe makes me quite happy!

This recipe comes from the Mountain Rose Herbs Blog. There are a lot of variations out there but this one is my favorite.

Here’s what you’ll need-

40- Drops Clove Essential Oil

35- Drops Lemon Essential Oil

20- Drops Cinnamon Essential Oil

15- Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

10- Drops Rosemary Essential Oil

You can also add Sweet Orange, or Oregano (or both) to this blend!

A dark glass bottle for mixing- you can use an empty EO bottle or I use these.

This blend is great for diffusing 2-3 drops in your diffuser on in a pot of simmering water. You can add it to a carrier oil or cream (6-12 drops per oz. of carrier) and rub it on the bottoms of your feet.

** Please keep in mind I am not a Dr. (I’ve mentioned that before) so I am making no claims. Also Essential Oils are potent substances and can be harmful if not used properly. Please use with caution, make sure you dilute the, and educate yourself on their use.

I love that story and if it’s true, well, that’s pretty amazing that they warded off such a virulent illness.
Thieves smells amazing and I use it for everything.
