Only 9 days until Christmas!! Can you believe it???
Now not only is it Christmastime but we’ve also gotten a lovely coating of snow to make it just perfect for feeling in the holiday spirit. With snow comes playing outside and of course hot chocolate when you come in!
Well these little hot chocolate spoons are great for not only a super fun and tasty way to make hot chocolate but also for an awesome DIY Christmas gift. They are a lovely gift for teachers, friends, neighbors, anyone who loves chocolate… which is everyone right?? Pair them with a beautiful mug, or package them up in some pretty wrapping and anyone on your gift list will be excited to get them!
A great thing about these is that you can customize them for who you are giving them to. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, you can even get dairy & allergen free chocolate chips if someone on your list has diet restrictions! You can use fun toppings like marshmallows or sprinkles for kids or dress them up a little fancier if you’re giving to adults… you can make a whole bunch and customize them for anyone on your list.
Here’s what you’ll need to make these hot chocolate spoons-
Plastic Spoons
Chocolate chips, milk, dark or white
Assorted toppings – sprinkles, crushed candy canes, tiny marshmallows etc.
Coconut oil
Jars or glasses, with a nice wide mouth for dipping.
Crock pot
wax paper or silpat
First thing you’ll want to do is fill your crock pot about 1/2 way full of water and turn it on high. The crock pot helps keep your chocolate liquidy while you’re working.
Now you want to put your chocolate chips in your glasses or jars, and add in coconut oil. I use 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil for every cup of chocolate chips. The coconut oil helps to make your chips melt nice and smoothly. Start with one teaspoon and add a little more if you need a better consistency.
Once you’re chips are all nicely melted you can dip your spoons. Get your toppings laid out and ready to go, and get your wax paper or silpat laid out too.
You’ll also want something to prop up the handle of the spoons while they cool, a semi squished paper towel tube does the job nicely. Alternately you could use a book, or blocks… anything that will make it nice and flat.
When you’re ready to dip, just put your spoon in the chocolate, give it a nice swirl and kind of scoop it out so you have a nice full and coated spoon.
Now prop it up and sprinkle on whatever toppings you’d like or give them a little drizzle of another chocolate. Let them sit until they are cooled completely and the chocolate is set.
For a great cup of hot cocoa you just need one of these hot chocolate spoons, a nice cup of warm milk, or your favorite cup of coffee!
