Lake Erie’s shores and islands are a great place for a family vacation! Sometimes on vacation you need a break from the sun, or have a rainy day so here are some of our favorite indoor family activities at Lake Erie!
Ghostly Manor Thrill Center –
If you’re looking for a great place to spend the day you can’t beat Ghostly Manor! This indoor thrill center is home to a fantastic haunted house that will have you jumping, screaming girly screams, and having a blast! After you’ve been scared (or if the haunted house isn’t your thing) you can have fun playing Wizards Journey mini golf, roller skating, taking the laser maze challenge, enjoying a fun 4D movie, and running around in the bounce house and play area.
One of the things we love about Ghostly Manor is that there is a little something for everyone! My older boys loved the laser maze and my youngest burnt off all kinds of energy in the play area!
Escape Rooms by Franknicky-
If you love escape rooms, or have never done one and want to start with an awesome one I can’t recommend Escape Rooms by Franknicky highly enough! These escape rooms are not for those looking for a quick and easy puzzle, they will have you thinking, solving puzzles, looking for hidden secrets and so much more!
I don’t want to say too much, because this is one that you’ll want to experience without spoilers, but lets just say we are planning to go back next year! We played the “Trapped in the 80’s” game and are looking forward to trying “Tesla the Electric Messiah” this summer!
Since Escape Rooms by Franknicky is located in downtown Sandusky you can easily hop into a great restaurant for lunch before your game and then head to some of the great museums downtown to make a day of it!
Kalahari Indoor Waterpark-
If you want to spend the day indoors but still want to be in the water then you’ll want to head to Kalahari!
This amazing indoor waterpark is America’s largest and is home to an awesome wave pool, thrilling water slides, indoor hot tubs, great kiddie pools and that is only in the water park!
Kalahari also boasts minigolf, a game room, laser tag, a 7-D motion theater, and a safari animal park! If you want to spend more than a day you can book one of their beautiful rooms or suites and spend even more time having fun playing and splashing (oh and relaxing too, they have a spa!!)
Museums & Historical Sites-
I could be here all day talking about the awesome historic sites and museums along the Lake Erie shore. Sandusky is home to a Maritime Museum, a Merry-Go Round Museum and the Cooke-Dorn House.
Sandusky isn’t the only place to check out a museum! You can check out the Keeper’s House and Marblehead lighthouse, the Aviation Museum in Port Clinton, Perry’s Monument, Kelleys Island Historical Association’s Museum… and so many more! Hop on over to the Shores & Islands website to find all of the amazing museums the area has to offer!
