Looking for a fun craft to do with the kids to get ready for New Year’s Eve or another occasion? These noisemakers are easy, fun and everyone will love making and using them!

Homemade noisemaker surrounded by pom poms

New Year’s Eve can be a really fun night with your family or friends and whether you are celebrating with adults or kids noisemakers can add to the fun!

These DIY noisemakers are great for other ocassions too! They are perfect for parties, cheering for sports games, or any other time a noisemaker would be fun! (You can even use them for a fun musical toy!)

This noisemaker craft is a great one to do with your kids during the day to be ready for midnight to come. It is really simple and even small children can take part in the decorating, and of course the noisemaking!

This is a super versitile craft supply wise. You can use lots of different things for decorating, if you don’t have dried beans for the noise part rice or even small rocks will work just fine! You can even omit the stick and just make it with the paper plates like a noisemaker tambourine! If you’re making these for a party you can decorate them with any theme or colors!

You’ll want to use paper plates not styrofoam, marker and pen won’t decorate them so paper works best!

The important part is to have fun! While working on these is a great time to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new year. You can chat, create, and have a great time!

Supplies for diy noisemakers, paper plates, paper straws, pom poms, paint pins, glue gun, dried beans, ribbon

First you’ll want to decorate the back of 2 paper plates. Use your markers, paint pens, glitter etc to make them look however you’d like. Some ideas are patterns, fireworks, the year etc.

Two paper plates with the back side decorated

Using your glue gun glue the straw or popsicle stick on the inside of the plate that will be the back of the noisemaker. Be sure to stick a good amount inside so that it will be stable. If you’re using a straw flatten the top part so that assembly will be easier.

Place a handful of dried beans in the center of the plate.

Hot glue an even bead of glue around the edge of the back plate and then firmly press the front plate onto it to affix it into place. Check for any holes around the edge and add additional hot glue if needed.
