I have two dogs who are a huge part of our family! They are such amazing companions and friends. Our big dog Bear is only 2 and is a crazy beast who has tons of energy and is always up for an adventure.

But my little dog Sydney is getting older. She’ll celebrate her 10th birthday this summer and she’s not as active as she used to be. When we started to see that she was feeling her age we knew it was super important to keep her moving as much as possible, and make sure she’s getting the nutrition she needs to give her energy!

We have always known the importance of feeding our dogs high quality food and they are huge fans of the Nutrish brand. That’s why when I saw Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Peak™ Wetlands Recipe™ with Chicken, Duck & Pheasant at our local PetSmart that I had to get it for them to try!

Nutrish PEAK is protein rich with nutrient-dense meats, it includes 30% high quality meats and 0% grains, glutens or fillers. Our little lady has to have grain free food because she has some skin allergies and sensitivity to grain.

It’s great knowing that not only the dry Nutrish PEAK food is perfect for helping both my dogs stay healthy, but I can treat them with wet food too! Every Nutrish PEAK wet food recipe is made with real chicken, combined with protein-rich duck, beef or lamb for a flavor your dog will love. They love all the flavors especially the  Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Peak™ Open Range Recipe™ with Chicken & Beef in Hearty Gravy.

Because Sydney does have some allergies, her skin tends to be sensitive, especially on the pads of her paws! She loves to go on walks, explore and have fun, but sometimes her paws get dry and even crack!

So in addition to feeding her quality food like Nutrish PEAK to keep her allergies in check, I also like to make a homemade paw balm to moisturize and protect her little feet!

This paw balm is perfect for any dog who loves to be outside but has sensitive feet, or for cracked or super dry pads that need a little TLC. (Of course always check with your vet if you think your dog has a health issue!)

I like to make it in nice shallow containers so that I can rub her feet right over it and get them all nice and moisturized! It makes a huge difference and the result is happy paws!

Making this paw balm is super easy and this recipe makes enough to last awhile! I used rectangle tins (the kind mints come in!) and they are the perfect size for a paw to fit in. This recipe makes 2 tins full.  You can use pretty much any tin or container to make this, whatever works best for you to apply the paw balm to your dog’s feet!

Here’s what you’ll need for your paw balm –

3- Tbsp Beeswax

2-Tbsp Coconut Oil

2-Tbsp Almond Oil

2-Tbsp Shea Butter

The process to make paw balm is super simple. You want to melt your beeswax, and coconut oil in a double boiler. I like to use a jar in a pot of water so that when I’m done I can throw the jar away for easy clean up. You can also use a bamboo skewer or chopstick to stir, so that is disposable too!

Just heat your water to a low boil and stir occasionally while your ingredients are melting.

Once your beeswax and coconut oil are melted, add in your almond oil and shea butter and stir until everything is melted and well incorporated.

Once it’s all liquid you can pour it into your containers.

Let it cool completely. Once it’s cool it is ready to use!!

Just rub your dog’s paw across the paw balm and it will provide a nice coating and moisturize their paws! You can also use your finger to rub it on if you want a thicker coating or to get in all the nooks and crannies.

It’s easy to keep your dog active by making sure they have the nutrition they need and keeping their paws healthy so they can walk and run comfortably!

I’m sure your dog will love Nutrish PEAK dog food as much as mine do! Make sure to check out the Nutrish PEAK website for more information and download this coupon before you head to PetSmart to purchase yours!

I have a daughter who’s highly allergic to almond and coconut. What else could I substitute those with?
    Thanks so much ,
    Amanda

You could probably use olive oil instead. It may make it a little softer but would work! Hope that helps!
