Wrap bracelets are awesome! Such a great way to dress up any outfit with a party on your arm! This denim wrap bracelet is super simple to make and a great way to reuse old jeans!
I love bracelets. Seriously, love them. You can be wearing a black t-shirt and jeans, and the right jewelry just dresses the whole thing up… that’s actually the basis of my entire wardrobe. The first thing I grab?? My bracelets.
Last year I picked up my first wrap bracelet. Why did I not know about these sooner??? This one is from an awesome company called Trades of Hope, if you’ve never heard of them check them out! I wear it all the time and am considering ordering all the other wrap bracelets they offer, because well… I neeeeedddd them.
Well this wrap started my love affair and suddenly I was inspired to make my own! It’s been a few years since I made bracelets with string and beads, although back in 1992 or so I could whip up a kick ass friendship bracelet with the best of them. But to undertake one like this? I’m a little intimidated, I’m sure I’ll try it eventually because, why not?
However, for this first endeavor into wrap bracelet making, I decided to go the upcycle route and break out some bedazzling skills, because I’ve still got those from the 90’s too!
This denim wrap bracelet turned out so super cute. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it, and it was easy to make. It has become one of my go-to pieces to dress up my favorite black t-shirts!
Want to make your own? Here’s what you’ll need for this denim wrap bracelet!
A pair of old jeans
Jewels, glitter, whatever decorations you’d like
Now when choosing your jeans you want a pair with a nice long inseam. The ones I used were an old pair of Anthony’s – a boys size 18. Teen or adult sizes are best, unless you want a shorter bracelet.
You also want a nice distinct seam so that you can cut along the edge and get the look you want.
What you want to do is cut down both sides of the seam, carefully, not cutting into the stitching.
Once you’ve got it cut out you can either trim it down for smooth edges or go ahead and pull at the strings to fray the edge like I did. Just pull out the loose strings to create a worn frayed look!
Now it’s time to get sparkly! I used these self stick jewels, I liked the variety of sizes, but you could pick out bigger ones, smaller ones, colors… whatever you like!
Even though they are self stick I decided to give them a little extra sticky power, we want them to stay put. So go ahead and put a little dot of super glue on the back.
Arrange them in whatever pattern you’d like, use a whole bunch or just a few, it’s your creation!
To hold this pretty creation on your wrist we’re going to make a couple of simple loops of embroidery floss. Load your needle up with embroidery floss, push it through the end of the seam. Loop it around your finger and run it through again, repeat 3 or 4 times and then tie it off.
Now do the same thing on the other end. This time though you’re going to add the button, and make your loops a little tighter.
If you want to add a little extra sparkle to your button to dress it up!
Once you’ve got it all finished it’s ready to wear!! Just wrap it around your wrist and then tuck your loop over the button to hold it into place!
You’re ready to rock your style, and have lots of people ask where you got your awesome denim wrap bracelet!
Are you a bracelet fan? What’s your favorite style??
