This post is dedicated to my very best friend Jesse. She is at home with an infant, a toddler, and a teenager… her hands are slightly full.
She also has a big ‘ol southern family that loves homemade gifts.
Hence I am sending out love in the form of my easiest handmade gift in this series.
To all the mommas out there who have no time, no inspiration, and plenty of little not-so-helpful helpers.
I present to you.
Go to the grocery store, throw some stuff in a jar… you’re done.
Ok there’s a little more too it then that, but not all that much.
Here’s what you’ll need
– Dried Orange slices… this is the one step that requires a little extra effort. I used clementines and my dehydrator and made some. Alternately you can click and ship with this Etsy seller or there are several others. Or in a pinch, leave them out. It will still smell lovely.
– Whole Cloves
-Whole Bay Leaves
-Cinnamon Sticks
-Mason Jar, bags, or packaging of your choice
(the cheap-y $1 spices they sell at the grocery and dollar store work just fine for this)
Each “serving” of potpourri, includes 2 Tbsp of cloves, 2 Cinnamon sticks, 3 Bay Leaves, and 3 Orange slices. (if you’ve opted out of the oranges, throw in a few extra of everything else) I fit 2 in the jelly jar that I used. Last year I used small cellophane bags that each held one. How you package it is up to you, just keep the proportions.
The instructions that go with it are simple. Throw it in a pot of simmering water, and enjoy the scent that fills your house. You can stick a label on the jar with the instructions or just tell whoever you’re giving it to.
Now check a gift off your list. And impress everybody with the fact that even though your hands are over full they can still crank out awesome gifts.
This post is also dedicated to my photo styling director Catniss the kitten.

This would look way better if I chewed on it for awhile. |
My work here is done… you may proceed. What would you do without me? |
