Bath Salt Recipe for Sore Muscles

We recently set up a weight bench in our basement… and the teenager started running track… The results?

Lots of sore muscles in my house (not mine… I haven’t been that motivated).

Anthony discovered his love for an Epsom salt bath during swim season when he totally overworked his arms and was in a lot of pain. All of a sudden his mom’s “hippy alchemy” wasn’t that crazy.

Well now I’ve taken it one step further, and added some essential oils to help soothe  sore muscles even more than the plain Epsom salt does.

bath salts

Here’s what you’ll need

1 & 3/4 Cups Epsom Salt

1/4 Cup Baking Soda

10- drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

10- drops Lavender Essential Oil

5- drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil

5- drops Rosemary Essential Oil

(you can find my favorite resources for essential oils here.)

This is pretty straight forward, and super easy. In a bowl mix up your Epsom Salt and baking soda until its well combined. Now drop in you essential oils and stir until they are mixed in really well.

Store in an air tight container until you’re ready to use them.

To use add a cup to a nice warm bath and soak for at least 20 minutes.

(If you are sensitive to any of these oils you can omit them. Some oils are not safe if you are pregnant, check with your Dr. This recipe is intended for adults and teenagers and obviously since I am not a Dr. it is not intended to treat any medical condition.)

What a great way to relieve muscle soreness! Much better than the Advil I relay on too heavily.

I can’t use Eucalyptus, it upsets my asthma. But in diffuser recipes I substitute it for Ravintsara. Could I do the same with bath salts?

I’m sure you could! I’m not familiar with that oils or it’s properties so I’d make sure your skin isn’t sensitive to it before soaking in it!

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon every day.
It will always be exciting to read articles from other authors and practice a little something from other web sites.
