Dry lips? Whip up a batch of this honey, orange & vanilla lip balm and soften them right up! This is super easy to make and nourishes dry lips way better than store bought!
I’ve always been a huge fan of lip balm… I tend to have it in my purse, in my car, in the pocket of my jeans… I pretty much don’t leave home without it.
I learned a long time ago though that all lip balm is not created equal. In fact some seems to make matters worse. I love finding one I love that is full of nourishing ingredients that really moisturizes my lips not just gives them a waxy coating.
A couple of years ago my dear friend Holly made a knock off Burt’s Bees lip balm and it was pretty fantastic. I have a couple of go to brands that I buy, but I decided this winter it was high time to make my own,
So I started looking at different recipes and different combinations and came up with one that I knew I would love!
This combines the healing properties of beeswax, honey, and coconut oil. The effect is super moisturized lips and a lip balm that lasts hours after you put it on.
I made this recipe to go in tins, you could put it in sticks if you’d like. I just love the little sliding lid tins.
Here’s what you’ll need –
2 Tbsp Beeswax
1/2 tsp Honey (raw is best)
3 Tbsp Coconut Oil
15 Drops Each Orange & Vanilla Essential Oils (here is a list of my favorite places to buy affordable essential oils)
Lip balm containers- this recipe fills 6 of these little metal ones
An eye dropper, or medicine syringe
This is super simple to make. First you’ll need to melt your beeswax and coconut oil. You can do this in a double boiler but since beeswax is a serious pain in the butt to clean up. So I recommend using a clean jar or can that you can just pitch when you’re done.
Put your jar into a pan with about 2 inches of water and heat over medium until the oil and beeswax have melted. I also like to use a skewer to stir or a plastic spoon… once again pitch them when you’re done.
While it’s melting lay out your containers close by so they’re ready to go
Once you’re beeswax and oil are nicely melted remove it from the heat and add in your essential oils. Now it’s time to put it in your containers. I highly recommend using a medicine syringe, you can usually get them for free at your local pharmacy. If you don’t have one you can use a spoon to scoop it in, or an eye dropper… or if you’re really good you can pour it in.
Once it’s nicely cooled it’s ready to use! Just rub your finger over the top and then across your lips! They’ll thank you!
Have you ever made your own lip balm? What is your favorite combination?
