I don’t know about where you are but here in Ohio our summer got off to a slow start. There has been a ton… I mean a ton of rainy days, and the heat seems to be delayed. June was just kind of blah. We had some very beautiful perfect days, but more grey dreary ones. (By the way, I am totally not complaining, it is not snow, it is not -5 degrees… I’ll take the rain!)
However July seems to have decided to step it up a little. The sun has come out more, and the days have been warmer. It finally feels like summer!
I made these a couple of weeks ago in the middle of a rainy patch, with the hopes that we’d be able to use them some day soon. We finally got to!
I think I might love sidewalk chalk more than my kids do. I just think it’s super fun. And these are kind of like a sidewalk chalk/watercolor mix that is really cool… no pun intended. They are really easy to make, and great for when your sidewalk is nice and warm from the sun!
Here’s what you’ll need-
1- Cup Water
1- Cup Cornstarch
1- tsp Washable Tempera Paint – you’ll need a tsp. of each color you’d like to use.
a skewer, straw or long skinny spoon
Now my molds are pretty skinny, and are just the cheap ones from the dollar store. This recipe was enough to make 4 “popsicles” but if you want to make more or have bigger molds just keep the 1:1 ratio of cornstarch and water.
Mix your water and cornstarch together in a bowl.
Now put a tsp. of paint in each popsicle mold.
Fill up each mold with the cornstarch mixture, leaving a little space at the top for expansion. Now using your skewer or straw gently mix the paint and cornstarch mixture together directly in the mold.
Pop the handles on your mold and stick them in the freezer until they’re solid.
We didn’t use ours up in one use so I just stuck them back in the mold and they kept really nicely. The tempera paint makes for great colors and easy clean up which is always fantastic.
Hopefully it’s warm where you are and these add some fun to your summer day!!
