I love coffee… love, love, love it!
I swore when I was about 16 that I would never start drinking it. My Parents and my sister were all dependent on it to wake up in the morning and I wasn’t going to do that.
Then Nathan was born… and didn’t sleep through the night until he was about 2 1/2 years old…
Coffee became my friend.
Recently though I have really been trying to make the switch from refined sugar to natural sweeteners.
So I decided to take my first homemade coffee creamer recipe, and tweak it using my new sweetener of choice for my coffee.
I use agave in this recipe. I tried honey in my coffee and I just couldn’t get used to the taste, I absolutely hate stevia… I tried to acquire a taste for it but that just hasn’t happened. So I tried agave, and I love it. It does take a few cups to get used to it if you’re transitioning from sugar, but so far it’s the best alternative I’ve found.
Here’s what you’ll need
1/4- 1/2 Cup Agave Syrup (the amount depends on how sweet you want it, use more if you want something close to store-bought)
1 & 1/4 – Cup 1/2 & 1/2
1- Tbsp- Vanilla extract
a pinch of salt (optional)
In a saucepan combine your agave and half & half over low heat. Stir and heat through for about 5 minutes. Add a pinch of salt and stir to dissolve. Now add in your vanilla and heat for another few minutes.
That’s it! You’re done! Let it cool and then put it in a container to store in the fridge, use it in your coffee the same way you use store-bought creamer.
