On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me….
Treats for my puuuupppyy!
Not everyone on your list has only two legs! So today we’re cooking something up for our four legged friends. These have been taste tested and approved by the pickiest dog in the world. Our black lab Buddy. He was a stray when we got him, and for a dog that went without food it’s amazing how often he’ll turn his nose up at things we give him.
But these? He is crazy about!
So I present to you Buddy tested and approved Christmas treats for the puppies on your list. (The kitten likes these too!)
Because dogs need Christmas cookies too!
2- Cups Flour (I used all purpose) + more for rolling
1/2 – Cup Wheat Germ
1/2- Cup Brewers Yeast- I used this kind
3- Tbsp- Coconut Oil (or other oil)
1 Cup Chicken Stock + 1/2 for brushing
Mix together your flour, wheat germ, and brewers yeast. If you’re using coconut oil warm up your chicken stock, it helps the coconut oil mix in easier. Add oil and one cup chicken stock to your flour mixture.
This dough is a bit sticky. If it is too sticky to be manageable add a little more flour. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll to a 1/4 thickness.
Using a cookie cutter cut out circles (I used a 2 in. biscuit cutter) Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and place your circles on it. They don’t grow very much during the baking process so they don’t need a lot of room. Now using your thumb and pinkie finger press a dog print pattern into your circles. You may have to flour your fingers during this process.
Now pop them in the freezer for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile heat your oven up to 400 degrees.
Bake for 10 minutes. Then brush with your 1/2 cup of chicken stock. Bake another 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
For the most part your paw print patterns should survive baking, freezing them before hand helps with that. Don’t skimp on the freeze time though. Some may puff up during baking, there’s really no way to help that… luckily the dogs don’t care!
